If We Knew What it Was We Were Doing, it Would Not be Called Research, Would it? - Albert Einstein

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Sam, I am a second year graduate student at the Grainger College of Engineering, University of Illinois, Urbana - Champaign, where I conduct research at the intersection of Controls , computer vision and robotics.

At UIUC, I've worked on several control and computer vision systems , including Model Predicticve Control (MPC), Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) and L-1 Adaptive Control. I have also worked with several machine learning algorithms for image processing , object detection(YOLO), Instance and Semantic object segmentation (UNET and Mask R-CNN), object tracking(DeepSORT), agent training (Reinforcement Learning) and data manipulation (GAN). I graduated suma cum laude in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin , Nigeria. During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to work on developing control algorithms for agricultural applications. After graduating from the University, I joined Solina Centre for International Development and Research(SCIDaR), Abuja, Nigeria,as a consultant. At SCIDaR, I applied Engineering principles and common sense to help strenthen health systems in the North Eastern part of Nigeria through the funded tripatite MOU by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation and Yobe State Government of Nigeria. After working a few years, gaining expertise in project management and data analytics, I proceeded to the University of Illinois for my MSc in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, where I am currently being advised by Dr. Cody Allen and funded by John Deere. At UIUC, my research is focused on the synergy between Control Systems and Computer Vision for Agricultural and Industrial applications.

Projects

My research interests are in the intersection of control systems, computer vision, robotics, and image processing. Much of the work I currently do are Agricultural related because we have alot of mouths to feed. In the future, I plan to expand to other industries.

Vision and LIDAR based navigation and control software update for an under-canopy robot Testing and algorithm development, Summer 2022

Updated software improved the performance of the robot with crash rate reduced below 2 in 1000ft

ℒ_1-adaptive controller for a tractor-trailer trajectory following system
Justin Yurkanin, Samuel O. Folorunsho, William Drennan,
Class project, 2021
Github / course page

Analysis of the system shows that L1 adaptive control is superior to MRAC as L1 decouples the adaptation loop from the control loop, enabling arbitrarily fast adaptation without sacrificing robustness

Development of an automatic Poultry House Lighting Control System utilizing Proteus and C
Independent project,Algorithm development and testing in actual poultry farm, 2017
Github

A time & event-based system that controls the lighting in a poultry house based on the age and lighting requirement resulting in 20% reduction in energy consumption and improved productivity

Investigated the enabling features of low-temperature combustion with biodiesel in improving emission and efficiency

Independent project , 2017

Experiment revealed that biodiesel improved combustion phasing substantially relative to petroleum diesel, causing the indicated fuel conversion efficiency of biodiesel to be 6% higher

Development of biogas digester and production of methane gas
Group project, 2015
Company website

The digester produced 2200 Litres of biogas (55.3% CH4, 43.9% CO2, and 0.8% H2)

Maybe I am at the gym
or Writing

or Playing football/soccer

or Watching football games
